First edition. Contemporary crushed purple morocco spine, marbled boards, original illustrated wrappers bound in. Paris, Paul Ollendorff. 1901
This copy is inscribed by Colette's husband, Henry Gauthier-Villars, using his nom de plume: "A Robert Vallier, cordial souvenir, Willy". Gauthier-Villars used a number of ghostwriters and when he discovered his wife could write he quickly recruited her too. Colette's first four novels were all published under his name.
An excellent copy, spine a little rubbed, points worn.
